Default Tank Collar Badge

A Tank Collar badge that has had the lugs removed, however I would welcome a positive identification, please. It is 1 inch by 1 and a half.

Hi Mark, it appears to be a cast copy of the "double turreted" collar badge. I'm not sure off the correct terminology, the original has quite a delicate crown which is voided. I've never found out where they came from, they are not common, possibly Indian made as I have a sweetheart with one on it, also looks cast, and the tanker had served in India. Tenuous but probable, hope this helps Mike

It's a female with machine guns in the sponsons on the tank rather more deadly than the larger 6pdr gun.

Thank you both for the information.
Now, who wore it and when?

Marc

Hi Mark, as I said in my response, it is probably Indian made. My sweetheart came with WW2 bits so I would guess 30's-40's. As yours had the lugs removed and my sweetheart had no lugs and was cast, yours may well have come from some form of jewellery. Magpie the turret could be a female turret but the tank itself is the same front and back, both ends purporting to be the front, though mishappen. Hope all this helps, best wishes Mike

"Tanks For The Memories" by Peter Payne and Jim Mac Donald shows an illustration of it or similar but just as on its "Fakes and Funnies" page with no info about it.

Hi Leigh, Jim initially thought it was a double stamping but later believed it was an odd manufacture. I'll try and find and photograph both the stamped and cast versions tomorrow all being well, best wishes Mike
