Good conduct stripes
Thanks Chaudiere for the info on the GC stripes. Now I have one for perhaps RCN
If after accumulating (lets say) two good conduct stripes & then went afoul of that nasty Regulating Petty Officer would you loose both, Maybe RCN you could give us a thread on that. By the way I just got my Radar Controlman badge. Ray |

GCB's
RCN (the pre '68 RCN) GCB's (Good Conduct badges) were awarded for three, eight & thirteen yrs service. Always worn below the rank insignia on the upper left sleeve of the uniform tunics. Not worn by CPO's (Chief Petty Officers).
Normally when a rating lost a GCB thru misconduct (some offence deemed serious enough to have a badge deprived) he lost one at a time, however if the offence was serious (ie: rated jailtime) he could lose them all at once. They could be restored after 6 months good conduct. He did not have to wait another three yrs if he lost his first GCB. Nice to hear you have acquired the Radar rate Ray, its a hard one to get - guy at last show had a long picture list of rate badges needed but he had a lot of them ID'd incorrectly so I ID'd them all for him. GCB's
Photos of RCN (pre '68 integration) GCB's:
The Petty Officer (Kings crown) is a wartime example. The PO1 (Queens crown) is a post '54 example. Bryan |
