Default Unknown silver cap badge

Hi
I am trying to identify the attached silver cap badge. It was found in an elderly aunt's possessions and must have some family significance. It is 3.5 inches high and doesn't appear to ever have had a crown.

Default Silver badge

I think this is an officers busby grenade for the Volunteer or Territorial Artillery.

Hi Derek

I agree with Rob; it also holds the plume which slots into the round container on which the slider is fixed.

There are a few variations of these, but, basically a Grenade Plume Holder in white metal or silver worn in the Busby by the RA Volunteers 1859-1878.

None of those illustrated (and nice they are too) were worn by members of the RHA.
