Default Auditors General Dept - New Addition!

Greetings Gents,

I just wanted to share my latest addition to my small CEF collection of an Auditors General Dept officer badge. Two original tangs and marked J.R. Gaunt London.

I'm really please with this badge and have wanted one for a while, just something about the design I like. It came in as part of a trade too, which is always nice. A really high quality badge and the condition is just stunning. Quite chuffed overall

I think these are quite rare as I haven't seen too many in my short time collecting CEF badge.

Cheers, Roy.

A very scarce badge. The Auditor General Dept was quite small, and there is not a lot of information about their role. (Other than most obvious being the review of spending and purchasing.)

Thanks for that Bill,

I had a suspicion that this was a scarce badge but perhaps rarer than I had initially thought. I'm very impressed with the quality, a beautifully made and quite robust badge. Of course the sterling condition was a big draw for me. Looks unworn!

Cheers, Roy.

Roy, I believe that these officers were either auditors or accountant types in expertise and did not go much further than the Headquarter of the Overseas Military Forces of Canada in London. The Aud Gen appears to have been independent of the OMFC, as would be appropriate for their role.

Hi Larry,

Email & pic inbound.

Bill, thanks for the additional info, perhaps not the most glamorous of units but certainly a super nice badge and all the more interesting due to it's rarity.

Cheers, Roy.

Hi Roy, The question I am wondering about is their status. I don't know if officers would be seconded to the Auditor General's Department. They may have worn uniforms but not held any substantive rank?

Hi Bill,

Interesting point! As you mention in a previous post, the staff must have been really quite small indeed. I wonder if anyone has or has seen a period image of personal to this department?

Roy.

Hi Rob,

Would love to see a couple of photos (front/back) for comparison?

Well done too!

Roy.
