Default Uganda Protectorate

Hi Gents,

I'm not 100% sure this is the correct location for this thread, so if the moderators wish to move it then by all means.

I must confess to having a big soft spot for Colonial badges, so when I spotted this beautiful gilt officers Uganda Protectorate badge I thought it would make a lovely addition to my small Colonial collection. I have seen these before but this one just seemed really nice quality - probably British made and lovely gilt finish too.

Very pleased with this beauty, although to be honest I can't say I know a great deal about this badge, so any thoughts or 'expert' opinions gratefully received.

I guess if I get a few more I will have to start another album!

Cheers, Roy.

Beautiful badge, the African badges always had wonderful animal iconography, the look of great adventure.

Congrats on another addition to your collection.

Hi Gents,

Thank so much for your kind words. Yes no longer in England but I do miss going to the shows as there is almost nothing around here in our quite little town. The only British badges I ever come across are at the bigger gun shows and most are modern copies, so it's mostly the internet or established contacts/friends for me. In my youth I used to love trawling around all the antique shops in my home town of Shrewsbury.

Irish I couldn't agree more. One of the reasons I'm drawn to Colonial badges is the rather exotic designs. Right or wrong they hark back to the old Colonial days of Britain Empire and the romance of those times.

I only have a handful of Colonial badges but perhaps with a little luck I can get a few more and put up an album on the topic.

Fingers crossed chaps for some good finds for us all this coming year.

Cheers, Roy.
