Default Paying a high price is not a guarantee of authenticity

Paying a high price is not always a guarantee that what you have bought is period genuine.
Many years ago I paid 'through the nose' for a RhPJI brevet for the Blues uniform even though it had been cut down, was tatty, worn, grubby, had a small piece missing and had velcro stitched to the reverse.
It's probably the main reason I was attracted to it and I haven't seen one like it since, so the amount I paid for it is in my opinion irrelevant.
