Default LRDG Badged Helmet

Prospect buyers beware of the fake badged LRDG helmet, lot 2418 in Stacey's Auction ( Rayleigh, Essex) on October 17, 2017.

I have contacted the auctioneer - to point out the fake, also that a warning about the fake will be posted on collector forums, and seeking their co-operation in removing the helmet from the auction to prevent a fraud.

I will update this thread if I receive a reply.

Keith.

Reply from Stacey's:

"Hello and thank you for your message, and your comments are appreciated"

However, the lot is still shown for sale?

Go on the saleroom and type in LRDG.
Two helmets come up for sale and both in Essex.
I have emailed both sellers.
Never thought these guys were too keen on 'tin lids' especially green ones.

Thanks Matti467,

A silmilar helmet with painted LRDG badge is in the Bonningtons of Epping auction on October 16, 2017, lot 319. I have contacted the auctioneer and warned them of the fraudulent deception. I will post their reply, if I get one.

You are correct about helmets not being the chosen headwear for the LRDG. Indeed you occasionally see an image of a tin lid in a truck, but I have yet to see an image of one being worn by a member of the LRDG. A most uncomfortable item of headdress particularly in the blazing sunshine of the Libyan desert. I am sure, if worn, it was only when under attack.

Enjoy the hobby, Keith

My Grandfather's steel helmet from 1940-1 was a much sandier colour. The tan loks wrong. Two in one small area is interesting makes one wonder....
Happy to help
Matti

The fake helmet has shown up again.

I have emailed the auctioneer and wait their reply.

Prospective buyers beware, don't bid on this item.

Keith

I’m guessing the Blue LRDG beret with an embroidered badge is pony too?

It's amazing how you never see helmets with other unit badges on but the secretive special forces emblazen their helmets with their badges...
