It's a Boer War era South African Light Horse badge.
Very nice. Cheers, Alex |

Hi,
I'm no expert but yes a South African Light Horse badge. However I believe this die-struck example is considered post Boer War, 1902 - 1907. Depending on size it could be hat or collar. A lovely badge and quite scarce. There were a number of (non die-struck) versions used during the Boer War, some like yours and other versions too. Here is mine. Cheerio, Roy

Just a confirmation. This is a post Boer War SA Light Horse badge (1902 - 1907) and appears to be a collar badge.

The SALH was actually disbanded on the 7th of July 1902 at Elandsfontein, this particular badge, made in Great Britain, is a Transvaal Volunteers SALH collar badge and is nothing whatsoever do with the SAMIF.
The Transvaal Volunteer Force was established by Milner's Provisional Administration in the former republic, after Vereeniging, they were actually worn in anger, but, only once, by members of the regiment who had formed part of the Transvaal Mounted Rifles, for a few weeks in 1906. |
