In the second picture - the man on the left holding the rifle - his hat badge looks remarkably like the King's Colonials New Zealand Squadron insignia. But by this time they had been transformed into King Edward's Horse, I think, so if that's the case, maybe this chap kept and wore his old badge??

They are members of The Manchester Frontiersmen, commanded by one Captain Nowell Henry, a Canadian. They called themselves the British Colonial Horse Regiment, probably for political reasons. A rum bunch by the look of them.
