Default York and Lancaster 'cuckoo'

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FINE-WW1-M...16.m2518.l4276

Not what it appears to be. The seller describes it as Ww1 which it is not, but that is not why it is going for £40. It is however, not a militia or VB badge which is what the bidders may think it is.

It is actually a first pattern 2nd VB badge 1896 to 1908 (2nd Bn eventually becoming the 5th Bn Y&L).

Its one of those occassions when a seller sells something that they didnt know what they had and a potential bargain.

Looks like my bid had now been blown out of the water now everyone knows about it!

The last VB badge I handled had been made of all white metal with a brass overlaid rose.

That one however has the standard regular badge brass construction but has had the front dressed with a silver finish to mask the brass underneath.

Sorry no, its a white metal badge with an infilled sweat hole and typical of the white metal badges of this type. When I get home Ill post some pictures of others.

Perhaps you may be getting mixed up with the 1st VB (Hallamshires) that is all white metal with a g/m rose AND coronet whereas the 2 VB is all white metal with ONLY a g/m rose centre.

The badge shown is a good one and is one I would be happy to own.

60 quid for that badge is cheap, they don't appear very often and are usually in the range of 90 to 120

Just for information

1st picture-1st VB 1st pattern

2nd picture-1st VB 2nd pattern

3rd picture-1st VB 3rd pattern

4th picture-2nd VB 1st pattern

5th picture-2nd VB 2nd pattern

Main point to note is that the 1st VB have a white metal main body with a g/m rose and coronet with w/m rose centre whereas the 2nd VB have a white metal main body and a g/m centre to the rose.

There are other variations of officers and NCO's badges but I'll leave those for another day.

Ivan,

I could not agree more with you on the description and construction, as you know I have had more than my fair share of these in the past, it also looks like I wont be in with a chance of winning this one now either as its just passed my maximum bid.

Regards,

FMT600

Sounds like that went for a bargain price.

Agreed Marcus, £60 would have been a steal.

The badge in the first post is now at £77 with 25 bidders.

Well it went for £104.89 which in my opinion is a fair price for this badge.
