Airborne Beret Group
Here is an airborne beret being sold on ebay as possibly a war time beret because part of the date has somehow ‘worn off’. I always find it amusing that the only area of the makers mark that appears to receive the most wear is the last digit of the date! Those Damn pointy headed paras!!

The E above the broad arrow is not a letter used during the WWII period.
It is strange how often you see the date being the only part that is worn off, I wonder why hmmmm.

I have had a look round at other military sites and it would seem that 'E' is a 1947 code. I can't find a full list of these stamps but most definitely post war.

A Devonshire Regiment red beret post-war - indeed, 1950s - with Parachute Regiment titles? Alarm bell.
Service in India before 1936 as shown by the IGS 1908 ribbon, but nowhere else pre-war? Alarm bell. Medal ribbons which look like they've been worn on detachable bars elsewhere and have worn quite badly? Alarm bell. Looks like a hodge podge of separate badges amalgamated too, by the differing patterns of wear. I'd avoid it. |

Absolutely Irv, 1947 is the corresponding date with that letter. You may also find late production 1946 with the letter ‘E’ as well.
Cheers
