Default 6 Armoured

Hi,
Please don't take this as gospel as I stil have lots to learn. It doesn't look like any that I own. At first glance I tend to think it may not be WW2: machine stitching around the edge and the backing material doesn't fit in with what I would expect. If the patch had been felt with wool thread embroidery and maybe a 'cheesecloth' type backing I would have been happier. Of course, the backing could have been machine stitched on later in life. May possibly be post-war 20th Armoured Bde though.
Regards, Stephen.

It looks like a 'Brabbant' weave badge. These were used in the latter part of WWII when the company in Holland was occupied and turned over to making Allied insignia. As long as the background is black it should be for the Division.

I have one in exactly this manufacturing style for the 11th Armoured Div, so have no problems with it being a late war or immediate postwar patch. However -- 6th Armoured Div served in Italy and then Austria rather than NW Europe, so I don't know if this adds a level of doubt or complication about it.

Afriend of mine has a cherry type pegasus with the same backing,so maybe it's a good one after all.

Hi, the 11th arm. was Dutch manufacture in the 50's so that must be post-war 1st arm. div. Often they are found with some sort of stamping on the reverse as with the American special constabulary badges.

Hi, 6th arm. was renumbered 1st arm. in BAOR in 1950. Hence 1950's Dutch manufacture. War-time was in Italian theatre, Italian manufactured badges were prone to black embroidery on fist fading to a dark brown colour. Hope this helps.

Hey, you're right about that 'stamping'! I just checked my 11th Armd Div patch and it has what looks like an ink-stamped number 24 (or something very similar) on the back. How about that -- yet another discovery thanks to the learned members of the BBF!!
