Default Goldfields Infantry Regiment

Going through a few boxes today and ran across this badge. Great looking piece IMO. Gaunt made. 1900 to 1912 time period for usage? The size is that of a collar..

Lovely rare badge and extremely hard to find in Australia. Makes you wonder how it ended up in a box in Illinois.
