Good morning

Sorry to be a pain and I will invest in some decent books. I generally collect German Militaria but, due to the really good fakes about, switched to British for a while so bought loads of British insignia.

These badges I have had for a while and just wanted some opinions. They were bought from different dealers at different times.

What do you think about these?

Many thanks to everyone helping me with sorting out my collection I really appreciate your time and experience.

Regards

Martyn

Many thanks Simon

What are the give away characteristics so that I can try to apply these to other items that I may have?

Regards

Martyn

When you have been handling badges for over 50 years it becomes kind of second nature and I dont really have to think why? If you know what I mean, it just jumps out at you.

From your viewpoint it would be the colour, (chemically induced), lack of quality and defination, slider affixining - all of the above = fakes.

regards

I agree with Simon, they do look of more recent manufacture than old, the sliders, in particular.

Many thanks Simon. I can sometimes tell a good from bad badge but it's sometimes things like the lugs and sliders that i struggle with. It's an interesting subject and one which I intend to study as much possible.

Default Need you opinion

Hello All,

I have a reasonable reference guide to Canadian badges; I however am lacking in the British badges. Could someone help confirm, date and confirm if this is a collar worn by the BEF.

Thank you in advance

Chris

Chris,

No its not. The rank and file didnt wear those as collars.

It appears to be a mufti/OCA type lapel badge.

Looks like a button hole badge to me , I'd say someone's cut the horseshoe by the look of it

Hello Simon,
Are you sure that ACC did not wear collars? I have 2 collar sized badges, one with 16 spokes, the other with 12 spokes, both with lugs N/S.
Cheers, Tinto

Thank you for the quick answer. I wonder if either of you can tell me more about button hole badges. I would take they would be worn post war, much like a person wears a regimental pin on a suit.
What does Mufti/OCA type mean?
Chris

Hello Chris

Both 'mufti' and 'OCA' imply civilian rather than official military use. 'Mufti' usually means civilian clothes and 'OCA' stands for 'Old Comrades Association', so your comparison to a regimental pin on a suit is correct in this context.
