Luc, it sounds funny as those two Airborne patches were the only ones that didn't come with the lot but placed them there for the scan. They were given to me by a former member of the Parachute Regiment just after he completed his service around the time of the Falklands conflict. Everything's possible but I doubt if a Para would deal in copies and this is 30 years ago! He also gave me his stable belt, subdued badge and spare parade boots.

If he completed his service in the early 1980s he presumably served for most of the 1970s and maybe the 1960s too. As far as I recall the wearing of the Airborne Forces sign ceased when battledress was replaced by No 2 Dress c 1963. At that time, the only style of Airborne Forces sign permitted to be worn on BD was the Ordnance issue printed sign. Embroidered signs purchased from Aldershot tailors were worn, but at the wearer's peril. Having said that I have four examples of the embroidered sign with press studs affixed worn by an officer in the Guards Indep Para Coy in the Middle East c 1958-60.

What I can add is that they have like a black film on the back, partially missing on both, over which the embroidery was made.

Hi Luc,

here are the pictures. after looking at these again, curiosity got the better of me and I peeled a bit of the backing loose. Now the paper seems to be glued onto a black gauze and the embroidery goes through it. The colour is a shade lighter then the other ones. These have signs of being removed from something (I know that does not prove anything). I have bought these a couple of years ago together with some Belgium Para wings, slip-ons and collor patches.(all genuine) this made me believe that these type of pegasus patches were Belgium post war.

Please have a look and see what you think of them.

These exact patches have been identified as replicas on the WA forum a couple of years ago.

And finally, here are mine.
Although they also have strong traces of glue, not resin as I had thought, they didn't come from the same source as the others, but years earlier and have been in a box since.

Thanks guys. But let me get this straight as these flashes aren't my real line, did squaddies ONLY wear official service issues or could they wear 'tailor's replacements' in those days?
