Smile Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance day, I have just returned home from Belgrave where about 50 people turned out for the RSL's service at the Belgrave War memorial The sun shone and it is a beautiful Spring day.

We gathered to remember those who gave their todays for our tomorrows.

We did remember them and the day will finish with a formal dining in at the RSL.

Lest We Forget.

Phil.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Lest We Forget

In Flanders fields the poppies grow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, Canadian Army 1915

Lovely service at the Allied War Cemetery in Southern Atherns today, first time I'd been since moving out here, will get back one day when I have the place to myself to have a better look. Always shocked by how young most are and also the large number of RASC names listed. Most of this lads were caught in the retreat in 1941.
