12 Signals Squadron
Please can anyone tell me which country used this title. It has been suggested that it is from Southern Ireland, thanks, John

This is SACS or South African Corps of Signals. Not sure of the date but early sixties I think. Also the title is to be found in Afrikaans. The unit has a diamond patch with green lt blue dark blue with a white lightning flash on it. 11 Signal Squadron aslo has a title. There are several varieties for these two squadrons. I have
11 SEINESKN (11 Signal Squadron) 11 BDE SIG SQN 12 SEINESKN (12 Signal Squadron) Colin Owen's book on SA badges and insignia shows: 11 BDE SIG SQN 11 BDE SEINESKN 11 SIG SQN It looks like there are at least 8 varieties for the two squadrons. As regards the unit flashes I have, there are: 1 3 5 and 12 Sqn. All have white numbers also 5 has a variety with a wire wove number as well as as a white number. There are a couple more too. Have seen pix of 15 Air Formation Sqn in wire wove. Perhaps some of the others can help to make up a full list of these patches SACS 1960s patches. There are none shown in Owens book. Would trade you the title you have for 12 Sig Sqn flash if it interests you. Rgds Cliff |

I served with 10 Signal Training Squadron and then with 11 Independent Brigade Signal Squadron in 1963 before returning to my home unit, 1 Signal Squadron, from 1964 to 1967. The curved green shoulder flashes were cetainly used by 11 Sqn in 1963 (I have a pair) while the cloth diamond arm flashes were issued in late 1966 or early 1967. I left before we actually began to wear them.
