info
I am not much wiser but thanks, I didn't think that the belt went with the buckle?
It has been suggested Royal Scots? I know absolutely nothing about these regiments so any help would be appreciated, any similar pictures? Last edited by sketchley kid; 07-05-13 at 01:12 PM. |

I cant really see much of the design on the belt although it does seem from the back to be an officers belt backed with red morrocan leather. Is there a thistle design on the front of the belt ?
There should of course be the other end of the buckle on the other end of the belt. A lot of Scottish regiments used the image of St .Andrew on their insignia. Others may be able to add more. P.B.

Is this what you wanted? The left hand buckle is a Queens Own Highlanders officers w.b.c. based on the old Cameron Highlanders w.b.c.

Two more pics, Family seem to think Royal Scots with family history going back to Waterloo but would like to verify regiment and possible date.
Buckle is complete with a No.3 on reverse. |

mismatch ?
Hi SK
I have to agree with Peter on this one, and feel sure it is a Cameron officer's WBC circa 1850 - 1870. Certainly there is nothing like it in Leask & McCance (The Royal Scots definative history). Also I am sorry to say it looks to me a bit "made-up"...the bullion decoration on the belt appears to be a number of officer's embroidered collar badges of the Royal Scots (or perhaps even the Scots Guards) rather crudely sewn-on to the waist belt. Do the family who own this have any further items from the same officer which may support their view that he served in the Royal Scots ? A medal, or even the Medal List might help. Also there is the "Waterloo Roll Call" by Charles Dalton which may give his name. Regards Jeff |
