Default 56th (Salford) Lancashire Rifle

Hi Folks,
Can someone help, I'm after any information on The 56th (Salford) Lancashire Rifle Volunteers.
I know they were raised on the 5th of March 1860 and for a while was Commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Fishwick, but that's about it.
Any more information would be gratefully received.

Cheers Kev

Westlake in "Tracing the Rifle Volunteers " says formed with 4 companies at Salford on 5/3/1860 with Major George A Hill taking command on 20th July 1860, renumbered 17th in 1880 and joined the Manchester Regiment as one of its V.B.`s in 1881.

Transfered to the Lancashire Fusiliers as the 3rd V.B. in March 1886.

From the pictures of the headdress in the Bonhams catalogue they looked like superb items.

P.B.
