Help with identification please
Hi,
Just purchased this button but am having difficulty identifying. Looks to all intents and purposes like the Rifle Volunteer button of NSW and Victoria mentioned in Possum's "Buttons of the Defence Forces in Australia" except for backmark which is Firmin & Sons, London. Could it be a variation of the Queen's Own Tower Hamlets Militia (Light Infantry), which has the only design I am aware of with a curved bugle horn - although normally with the tower of London in the curl? Perhaps one of the forum's experts can enlighten me?? Regards Barry |

There are no 'experts' on the Forum - only members with opinions - here's mine. Your first suggestion is probably right. A London backmark is not uncommon for colonial buttons so don't be put off by that. I saw this listed and didn't bid as I believe it to be colonial - as you have outlined. Just my opinion, of course.
