Volunteer Battalions of "The Buffs"
Hi,
I wonder if anyone has ever come across a white metal or silver plated button to the Buffs, East Kent Regiment. Years of collecting the buttons of Volunteer Battalions of line regiments, and I have never seen one? Regards Janner305 |

Buffs - Volunteer Battalions button
Thought for completeness I'd better comment on my earlier question.
Saw one of these at a recent military fair and bought it on the spot! One less of the outstanding wants of this group of buttons, but there are others even rarer still out there. The frustrations - and joys - of collecting!! Regards Janner305 |

Congratulations, its nice to tick something off your list of wants.
Any chance of a picture, and is it WM or silver plated? Regards Rob |

This is taken from another thread on the Forum:
T.F. Regulations 1912(amended to 1st December 1914) - Section 9, Officers Uniform - Para 453 "Except in the case of corps for which special uniforms have been sanctioned, full dress uniform will, as far as possible, conform to that of corresponding units of the regular forces, silver lace and white metal buttons and ornaments being substituted for gold lace and gilt metal. Yeomanry regiments which prior to the formation of the Territorial Force had permission to wear gold lace and gilt ornaments retain this distinction." and would suggest that any silver or silver plated kings crown buttons of the same design as those worn by regular officers are as likely to have been for Territorials as they are to be V.B.`s. P.B.

Volunteer Battalions of the Buffs
Sorry for the delay getting back but picture of the button attached.
It is silver plated, so officers' button and has QVC so dates 1883 - 1902. Has manufacturer's mark Jennens & Co, London with Prince of Wales's feathers. 8th Foot - many thanks for this info. This helps to identify white metal buttons of for example: the Beds & Herts Regt, which I have and thought might have been bandsmens' buttons?? Regards Janner 305 |
