Default Identification please

Could anyone throw some light on the attached button. It is a Royal Army Medical Corps tunic button with Kings' Crown, but it is silver plated, not the usual gilt. Backmark is "Pitt & Co, 31 Maddox St, London W.
Have never come across any mention of this button being used in the volunteer role?
Any help gratefully received.

Regards
