Simon,
I have never came across one but think it is MGC pipers badge. You did not give an indication of it's size. Eddie |

Simon. I have no idea, but it looks like a pipers plaid badge. Did the MGC have Scottish affiliations that could have warranted a piper?

Hi both. It's 90mm wide, and yes; I've never heard of any specific Scottish MGC outfit.

Simon,
At that size it is a plaid brooch. The MGC was assoiated with just about every division including Scottish ones. Eddie |

Ok, thanks chap's. What do you think one should go for? Can't imagine that many around.

Hi Simon,
I agree it looks like a plaid broach to me, but never seen one like it. Looks lovely, well done. Cheers, Roy.

Hi Simon and others,
In the book "Machine-Gunner 1914-1918", Personal Experiences of the Machine Gun Corps, compiled and edited by C. E. Crutchley, pages 144, 145, there is mention of the Machine Gun Corps Band, said to have had the shortest life of any Regimental band known to have existed. The musicians were originally members of the 18th (Pals) Battalion Manchester Regiment. No mention of pipes or pipers though. Cheers, Tinto |

Well, thanks chap's. Really appreciate bringing me up to speed on this one. And thanks for that link Eddie. That's the badge certainly, but only 21 pound.....I think I'll take a pass on the one I've seen at 105..........
There again, I have to discipline myself and stop going off track......stay the course on the WW1. Cheers and thanks again. Regards Simon. |

The plaid brooch is still a mystery to me.
According to my information the Machine Gun Corps probably never had pipers or Pipes & Drums, however, the Pipe Sergeant of the Royal Tank Regiment used to wear a plaid brooch with the Machine Gun Corps badge. The Pipes & Drums in the 4th Royal Tank Regiment were established in 1973. Aad |

I think the RTC design was used to reflect the RTR's history and connection to the MGC rather than a reflection of MGC piping.
