Hello Eric,

That is very interesting, I am in touch with Tom Savage who was with both the Liverpool Irish and Lancashire Artillery Volunteers Pipes and Drums, do you remember him.

I have recently acquired some uniforms to the LAV pipes and drums and am trying to complete a Pipe Majors uniform, picture attached.

I dont suppose you have any pictures of the Liverpool Irish Pipes and Drums do you ? I was told that after 1967 all the Pipers and Drummers uniforms were put in a pile behind the Aigburth Road drill hall and burnt.

Default Pipe Majors

Eric and Peter,
It may have been one of my posts that you have seen.
I have the following Pipe Majors of the 1st Bn Liverpool Scottish since 1946 to disbandment in 1967:
1946-1947 Stoddart, George (b. 1912 Leith, d. 1990 Edinburgh)
around 1950 Gardner, William B.
1953-1961 Daley, Samuel
1962-1967 MacRae, Evan (b. 1925 Black Isle, d. 1992?)
For the 103rd (Lancasshire Artillery Volunteers) Regiment I have Joe Massey as P/M from 1967.
I have no information about Pipe Majors of the 470 LAA Regiment; you mention Joe Morrisey and Frank Murray, when would they have been P/M?
Please let me know if you have any additional information.
Thanks and regards
Aad

Tommy Savage is a very good friend of mine and we have regularly kept in touch ever since i emigrated to canada in 1974 as for the irish uniforms being burnt i dont believe that to be true as the royal irish regiment had the same uniforms that we ended up with and as far as i can remember all the gear was sent to back to main stores some members who had been dismissed or left kept some of these uniforms or were reluctant in turning it in i still have my band badge as well as the regimental badge i know mike my life long friend a piper who came to canada before me managed to keep his safron kilt but donated it to a irish pipe band that began over here in the early eighties hope this bit of info helps regards eric

Thanks Eric,
What a pity that there is not a complete Liverpool Irish Pipers uniform that could be displayed at the new Liverpool Museum.( I wonder where that saffron kilt is now )

Default Pipe Majors

Peter,
I have Tome Savage on my list of Pipe Majors for the 103rd Regiment RA, after Joe Massey and before Ken Beamer, but would like more details.
Could you ask him to contact me; my email is aad@blueyonder.co.uk
Thanks and regards
Aad

Hi, for the purpose of myself and my nan - I was wondering if you would know where I could find more information about Pipe Major Samuel Daley, 1st Bn Liverpool Scottish, as this is one of our relatives.

Many thanks,

Danny.

Danny,

I am sure the Liverpool Scottish Museum ( which sadly is now a virtual museum ) would be able to help.
