Could this be the 5th Regiment Royal Scots of Canada (raised 1862 as 5th Battalion Royal Light Infantry) which became Black Watch of Canada in 1906? They were based in Montreal and have had Pipes & Drums since 1862. Their Pipe Major 1897-1907 was David Manson.

The sporran badges on the right side pipers would support these being 5th Royal Scots of Montreal, later the Black Watch. I note BW style badges on cross-belts.

Hi Ron,
I can't help with any additional information but have to say what a cracking photograph you have found. Well done! Cheers and thanks for sharing, Roy.

Thanks Guys, I knew it was 5th RSC my guess is it was taken just before 1906 when they became 5th Royal Highlanders of Canada.
The PM wears a silver quoit mounted with a Black Watch style badge on the baldric, also the Badge of Scotland between the buckle and the strap. His silver dirk belt plate is mounted with a Black Watch badge also, not easy to make out on this photo. Just trying to find his name? Ron. |

Ron,
The Pipe Majors in their early years were as follows: 1862-1875 unknown 1875-1879 Duncan Weir 1879-1880 John Mathieson 1881-1897 J. Duncan 1897-1907 David Manson I assume that you lknow the name changes during that time. Regards Aad |

Wouldn't that be a 79th Foot (Cameron) Glengarry badge, as worn by the BW?
