4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards
A wee bit confusing?
In 1922 4th Dragoon Guards amalgamated with 7th Dragoon Guards to become 4/7th RDG. In 1924 Jenner’s was taken over by JR Gaunt. Yet there is a 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards badge made by JR Gaunt London late jennens. The badge appears genuine but the dates are confusing? Any views? |

It is a common misunderstanding about the 1922 amalgamation. Several cavalry regts retained the old badges in to the late 1920s. One of the Sqns retained the junior regts badge whilst the majority retained the senior regt's insignia.
So you would have had officers and soldiers wearing both the 4th and the 7th DG cap badges and insignia after 1922. Some regts were quicker to adopt a new pattern badge than others. The 13th/18th embraced the amalgamation and a new design was quickly issued. others were slower to accept the fact that the amalgamation was not going to be reversed.
