Hi Richie,
I do have his service record but its hard to get him to remember anything now. He couldn't remember my Dad a while ago! His brother!!
I hate to think all this history will be gone soon
I have been telling him for the last thirty years to write down his service, but he never did. What other clasps do you think he should have? I could always chase it up.
Regards
Irv

I think Bryan is refering to the fact that he should have another clasp to his Naval Long service medal due to time served.

I see that he has the clasp for Borneo..... Did he get there on the "Old Grey Ghost"?

Hi Andy,
I'll ask him the next time we speak, but I can't say if he will remember.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the link. I have downloaded the document for application for the clasp. When would he have been eligible for the clasp? He joined 1st March 1939 and was discharged on 17th March 1970.
Regards
Irv

Based on those dates he wouldn't have been.

While rather LS&GC criteria is currently 15 years, prior to 1977 it was 18.

So he would have had to do 18+18=36, sorry but he fell 5 years short.

Cheers,

Andy C

I phoned and spoke to a very nice lady. Gave her the details and she said he was eligible
I did clarify it, giving her his dates and she told me he would be entitled to the clasp. She is sending me the forms. It will give me a good excuse to go down and see Harold. Beer and war stories
Thanks again Andy.

Yes that is correct. He req'd 15 yrs for the medal & another 15 yrs for the clasp, thus 30 yrs & he seemed to have enough time to qualify,

I hope you are successful in obtaining the additional clasp for him Irv!
