Default New Zealand help request

Hi Guys

Does anybody in NZ have any contacts, ideas etc on how I can progress this research

I have a Lee Enfield N9 .22 trainer rifle. Serial number A28XX. All pretty standard except that the magazine housing has obviously been replaced at some time. The rifle finish is as it left the factory but the mag is black painted and bears a series of marking including a N/I\Z - in other words the NZ MOD mark. The picture's a bit poor, but the stamps appear to be 7L, 8506, N/I\Z, 2104.

Now I know that in March 2009 the NZ MOD sold off its remaining stock of LE .22 trainers, including 119 N9s. I have contacted the auctioneers (Turner and Co, in Wellington) but they no longer have access to the catalogue for the sale. I have also asked the NZ MOD for a list of serial numbers under the OIA '82 but can anybody suggest any other lines of research.

For instance what might the 7L stand for on the mag housing?

Of interest but of no real help are

My first thought was 7L maybe an inspectors stamp or a military district number.

Best of luck.

David.
