Hello Jon,
Have a look at the photographs in the seventh post in this thread, very typical of wings made in Great Britain in 1944, embroidered on a very distinctive green melton cloth which is prone to moth.
I have never liked these, but, they are, what they are and were worn.
Kind regards Frank

Jon,

The wing listed as ‘Type 5’ is the more commonly seen British produced Canadian wing.

Cheers

Has this book been completed and for sale as of yet?

The narrative is complete, but I am not sure where it is at as far as publication is concerned. Clive will have more information.

A decision on publication of this title has not yet been made.

Okay, please keep us posted if and when you do. I'm sure there are many members on here that would be interested.

Thanks

The book will include the parachute qualification badges from issue in 1942 through the 1990's.

This title is almost ready to go to press. I will be looking at photo albums held at CFB Trenton (Cdn Forces Advanced Warfare Ctre - home to the jump school) in order to fill in some gaps. I suspect April-May 2015 for release.
The book will cover 1940s-presnt jump wings, the white leaf, Pathfinder, Rigger, SAR, Army Aviation wings and more.
Unlike other books out there Ken has done extensive original research at Archives and DND and the book delves into factual history of these insignia.

Default Confirmed Post War

Hi

I used to have a website showing all the wings and their variants. In my two books on the subject, I was puzzled by the wartime and post war traits of this wing. This until I found a photo of it being worn in the 1960's. Since the maple leaf and other traits match that of the other "issue" wing made in the 1960's I have dated this wing of that time.

The Maple Leaf extends below the wing itself and appears to be a vibrant gold colour. There is a stem that is noticeable from the bottom of the Maple Leaf as it points almost straight down. This Maple Leaf is similar to the Type 2 wing being more like a ‘pot leaf’ in style.

The well defined wings themselves appear to be almost flat or straight across nearly in line with the lower portion of the canopy with only the tips of the wings mildly sweeping upwards. When you start at the wing tips and work your way down to the Maple Leaf, you will notice the each defined step along the way from section to section. The background is a very dark green, almost appearing black in certain light conditions. The reverse side of the wing has a black cloth backing, however slightly different than your more commonly seen cotton version. The canopy, shroud lines and wings all appear to have the same white colour stitching.
