Hi 3DG
I don't like the first one but the second one looks ok to me.
Cheers,
Alex

Second one is a good one. The first one I’m not 100% sure on, it’s a bit tricky when you can’t handle it. Some people say if the slider is attached to the crown it’s a fake, but I beg to differ.

Mark.

Thank you for your responses.
A few close ups of the 1st one, only rough sticking out bit is on the rear on the berries on the wreath, pointed out by pncil. Now I thought this one was OK, what do others think?
Thank you all in advance agaim

As pointed out the slider is fitted high on the first one and the striking is shallower than the second badge shown but my instinct is that it is ok (and No horrible 'spanners'.)

To all that have replied, greatly appreciated.
I always thought the 1st badge was OK, there seems to be a difference of opinion, that makes me question the badge and put it in my ??? File.

Has anyone got a similar badge 1 with a non voided crown that they know is genuine, so I can compare please?
Thanks all again for your time

The non voided crown is not a sealed pattern one and possibly not issued. However it is on record that the RTC badges were being sold commercially to RTC soldiers in 1918 before they had been issued so period non-issued ones are quite possible.

My initial comment was not based on great knowledge of these badges, but more because the slider on the first badge looked like it had the patina of artificial aging. I would probably not have bought it if I'd seen it with that darkening on there.
Cheers,
Alex

I'm kind of with you Alex, didn't think about the slider and the artificial look, hmmm, one to keep hold of but not to display until proved a good one.

Thanks all for your time

I believe I am correct in saying that the 'spanners' is a good indication of a fake badge. Look at the apex of the hull at the front and you will see two small oblongs. On the real thing these were grease points. The ones shown on the subject badge are correct, but some copies have what looks like, well, 'spanners' as in wrench, not something that spans a gap! I don't have an example to show.

Hi John, it is actually a track tensioner. Basically it's a great big bolt that pushes the front drive sprocket out. Hope this helps, that's the trouble with being a tank nerd, best wishes Mike

Yes of course. I should have known, after all I spent 4 1/2 years attached to 1RTR and used to drive HQ Sqn's Cent ARV! The little grey cells are not what they used to be, and the advancing years don't help!
