14th Light Horse - unofficial collar badges - World War 1
Hi Guys,
Here's a question about these 14th Light Horse - unofficial collar badges. You may notice it has "Gallipoli" in the badge yet the 14th Light Horse Regiment was formed in Palestine in June 1918 from members of the Australian companies of the Imperial Camel Corps (ICC). As a unit, it was not involved in Gallipoli (April-Dec 1915). Any ideas why it would have been mentioned on the badge? Mick

The 14th Light Horse Regiment was formed in Palestine in June 1918 from members of the Australian companies of the Imperial Camel Corps (ICC).
As there were no battle honours for the 14th as such, they used the battle honours from the forming troops. The Imperial Camel Corps (ICC) was formed in January 1916 in order to deal with the revolt of pro-Turkish Senussi tribesmen in Egypt’s Western Desert. The first four companies were recruited from Australian infantry battalions recuperating after Gallipoli. |
