Just got this badge from an auction fairly and I like doing restorations. Havn't worked with gilt much so any hints on how I can clean this up?

Hi Colin

If it were mine I would take it to a jeweller and have it done professionally. If you have another officer's helmet plate from the same period take that as well to show them what it should look like. If they seem at all reluctant to give you assurances as to their ability don't leave it but wait until you hear from others on the Forum.
