Grenadier Guards
In this photo in use by the other ranks i believe that there is at least 3 types of Grenade Cap badges worn. I was wondering if anyone else would care to comment on this please. Cheers Andy

Andy,
I cannot see any difference? I think the appearence of size difference may be something to do with a combination of the light and the badges being shaped by the wearers? Andy |

Yes I can see the difference, with the one far right being the more common and as seen now. I agree with Andy that the other is a makers variation for Colour Sergeants that soon seems to have died out, although I do see them sometimes at collectors fairs.
By the way, the photo shows quite well the difference between the Guards round forage cap of that period, which had no folding flap, and that worn by Line Cavalry and Infantry that did have the fold over section. It's interesting too to see the white drill order jacket that must have been unpopular as such a bugger to keep clean. The background looks to me to be Pirbright Camp.
