19th Alberta Dragoons
An extremely rare battle dress shoulder flash for the SWW post war 19th Alberta Dragoons. One each were worn on the shoulders, I believe the turrets faced forward (staghounds).
I think only senior NCO's wore these. The final price is very surprising. Mike http://www.ebay.ca/itm/371102611242?...84.m1423.l2649 |

I am not that familiar with this flash, does any one know what years this would have been worn?

I am not sure where the cadet site found their information. They are paralleling the insignia with the authorized designations, but have it reversed. The research I have indicates the Staghound was used prior to 1949, and then they were designated the 19th Alberta Armoured Car Regiment in 1949. Titles were supposed to reflect the official designation, and the gold on green ones were likely authorized when NDHQ settled the post war dress regulations in 1948, which included detailed instructions on exactly what was to be on the insignia. Symbols or designs were a no no, thus the unit would have adopted a word title and disposed of the Staghound armoured car patches. The patches were worn at the top of the sleeve.
Mike, what is your source for the patches only being worn by senior NCO's?

I had a girlfriend back in the day who's father was a Sgt in the 19AD, his BD had the staghounds above his Sgt stripes.

Interesting. The photo evidence I have show the Staghounds being worn at the top of the sleeve.
