Default Chilwell Tank Fund Badge

Hi everyone

I have recently acquired a copy of the badge shown. It is a blue and guilt badge in the shape of a WW2 tank. In the circle that sits on the top of the tank is a V with the words Tank Fund. Below the tank turret is the word Chilwell. Can anyone tell me anything about it? What was it for? How many made and when? All info gratefully received

The Chilwell depot in Beeston, Notts is still going Sadly.... not for Tanks though. I did an Arty Target Indication course there nearly 20 years ago.

I think that the "V" is for Vickers who would have been the manufacturer.

COD Chilwell (the depot) closed in 1981 with its stock being transferred to Bicester & Donnington. During WWII and beyond Chilwell was the hub of a network of Advanced Vehicle Depots, and in later years vehicle spares.

Chetwynd barracks is still in existence and in recent years has been the TA & Forces Manning Depot for Afganistan, with everyone due a tour getting their additional equipment from the unit, but it is a far cry from when it was a depot.

I'm with you on that. Most tanks in WW2 weren't made by Vickers but by Nuffield or Harland and Wolfe.
