Default Pembroke Yeomanry Squadron RAC

Hi Guys,

Just a quick one - does anyone know if the Pembroke Yeomanry Squadron RAC wore anodised or white metal badges and titles during their time in the Royal Armoured Corps between 1961 and 1967?

Mick

Default Pembroke Yeo

Mick,

In 1955, 302 Field Regt, R.A. (Pembroke Yeomanry) had been authorised AA (Pair) collar badges (Cat No CB 3527).

05.10.61. At the 140th Meeting of the WODC it was decided (Decision 1200) to approve Dress & Embellishments for the Pembrokeshire Yeomanry Recce Sqn, RAC (TA).
Headdress badges- Design 0.2003. [No cat No listed for these items]
Collar badge- regimental pattern as worn
Buttons- Design 0.2004- 0.2006
Metal shoulder title worn on BD only- Design 0.2007.

No1 Dress Forage Cap and jacket were the 13/18 Hussars pattern.
On BD, badges of rank were standard khaki with yellow backing for Officers.

28.03.62. At the 144th meeting of the WODC it was decided (Decision 1262) to approve the design of a black metal arm badge with gold crown and chain on a black cloth backing, for wear with No1 Dress & BD by WO & NCO at Regimental expense.

18.09.63. At 155 Meeting WODC finished examples of headdress badge (Design 0.2003) and Buttons (Design 0.2006), for Pembroke Yeomanry Independent Sqn, RAC (TA), examined and approved.

= = =

18.09.63. At the 155th Meeting of the WODC, the Committee decided to approve finished sample of the following badges for Pembroke Yeomanry Indep Sqn, RAC (TA):
Headdress badge- Design No 0.2003.
Buttons- Design No 0.2006.

= = =

Date unknown- Order for supply of sample buttons placed with Smith & Wright.

24.01.62. Lead impression of AA title supplied by Smith & Wright Ltd.

10.05.62. Directorate of Clothing & Textiles placed order for 1250 titles (Pattern 18669) (CB 8366) with Smith & Wright.
= = =

It would appear from this that the Sqn wore their old badges at least for the first couple of years, until the new designs were actually agreed to, and orders placed.

Stephen.

Thanks - so I guess I should look for both A/A and whitemetal versions of their badges for my RAC collection.

Default Pembroke Yeo

They put the 'broke' into Pembroke because that will be your bank balance total if you are lucky enough to find an anodised one!

An example of the NCO's arm badge was sold at Bosleys on 6th September for £400. Clearly rare.

A photo is available on the results page of the Saleroom website.

I'd attach the picture but I seem to remember they don't like that happening.

I have often wondered during what period that arm badge was worn and post 2 above would seem to have it, although both examples I have seen were on a white cloth background.

I think the mystery is solved?

It's part of the coat of arms for the family that owned Picton Castle in Pembrokeshire.
