Default Sheffield Pals, I have my doubts.

I have my doubts about this, anyone else have any thoughts?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-12th-S...item565db1503e

The letter S has very pointed ends.
Most of the letters in the word Sheffield seem far too narrow for my liking.
The filing marks on the back seem very new to me.

There are a couple of other small things but I'll leave that to others to confirm.

Here's a few of mine to compare with.

I was going to post the same ebay listing Ivan. I think that bidder is going to be disappointed. Looks nothing like my two either.

Regards

Simon, the one in your album looks familiar?

Phil, to be fair to the seller he does say the badge has replacement lugs. However, I would hazard a guess that they are not replacements but original to what is a fairly modern badge.

Ivan like you I would stay well clear of the title the link leads to.

Cheers,

I agree Marcus.

Bit worrying that the copies are getting better though.

Hi Ivan, yes. I missed the sale; got outbid. But he came back to me a week or so later and said the buyer didn't go through and pay. So I was second in line. By then I was a little more flush and didn't need to drum up some cash by selling it. Sorry mate. Seems you found another, which is good.

Regards

Simon.

Oh I see Simon, it is the one you offered to sell to me and then a month later told me you didn't have it.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise you no longer had to drum up some money, I simply thought you had offered it to sale to me and that we had agreed a price.

Silly me, never mind, it looks like a nice badge so enjoy it and as you say, I have others.

Sorry Ivan, if I read correctly, it looks like your saying and feel like I deceived you in some way. I can't remember the time line, I remember saying that if I won the bid at that time, I would sell the title.

As I didn't win, I couldn't send it on to you. Some time after, I was offered the badges again. So I bought them. Not needing to fund any other badge purchase's, I didn't need to sell the title. I don't remember any contracts being singned

My apologies if you feel the I did misinform.

Not sure about that one Marcus, its the sort I would like to have in my hand before making a final judgement.

On one hand, it looks old and is the right font with the right gaps but on the other hand, I'm not so sure about the 'flash' around the letter 'Y' and the '&'.

Ivan,

Indeed it is the top part (1/2) of the title and in particular the & that puts me off a bit, the Sheffield bit looks ok, the lugs look ok so possibly it is just a bit of poor quality control on the production line with a duff casting.

I personally (I don't need to as I already a few of these) if looking for one of these would steer clear of this as it needs a repair in any case and is not particularly cheap when that is taken into account, I would look for a better example, I suppose it depends on how much someone wants an example so I think it may well sell.

Cheers,

M

I would agree with Marcus & Ivan on both titles - regarding the secontitle - I don't have one, but I'm wondering how much I want one!

cheers,

Andy C
