Wakefield Cadet Corps
Anyone seen one theses before? The crest is that of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Wakefield. The cadet corps was later affiliated to 4th Vartlion KOYLI. Imagine it's quite scarce? Any info/estimates on value and scarcity appreciated.
Thanks in advance PL |

The school's cadet corps was certainly well established in WW1. It had over one hundred members. You can find a page on the school CC in the school magazine of that year:
http://www.worldwar1schoolarchives.o...GS_1918_03.pdf The 1916 edition indicates that the 'company drills' started at the beginning of the war and was incorporated into school time in 1916 and the 1917 edn records that the cadet company was formerly recognised as a cadet corps in summer 1917. However the 1919 edn records that post war interest had dropped and the CC was down to only 40 members. http://www.worldwar1schoolarchives.o...916_Summer.pdf http://www.worldwar1schoolarchives.o...GS_1917_07.pdf http://www.worldwar1schoolarchives.o...GS_1919_12.pdf I should have pointed out that as it has the 'CC' of cadet corps in the title I think that you can assume that it was not worn before 1917 when the school received recognition as a CC proper. The school cadet corps was later revived and affiliated to the Royal Engineers TA as the 1941 Army list records: https://archive.org/stream/armylista...1grea_djvu.txt Last edited by Alan O; 04-07-17 at 02:57 PM. |

An useful record of the CC and the fact that it went with the 1930 cuts. However it has a photo of the badge in wear. |
