Cool Cambs without the "E"

Billy, I would be happy with this particular badge, admitted the slider is positioned a bit on the high side, but this particular badge was made in the early part of WWII, so I would think that quality control was not paramount.

This was evident when the badges were first issued to the 1st Btn when stationed at Weeting Hall, it was apparently a few days before someone noticed the "E" was missing and the badges recalled.

Default Cambridgshire

Please find attached an official press photo released in 1944. Note the badge is missing the 'e' but the blurb on the reverse includes 'e'.
I hope I haven't contravened the Crown Copyright by posting it: I presumed that as it had been released for the Press it was OK to use.

Somewhere on the Forum is a long thread on this badge but I cannot locate it right now.

Stephen.

Default Cambridgeshire with provenance

Billy,

I have added a badge which does not belong to me, but to my wife, it was her Father's that was one of the original issued badges at Weeting Hall and kept by him. It has not been cleaned I would think since the war, but I would be surprised if it didn't clean up as brightly as your badge.

The slider is placed lower than your badge, but positioning of sliders has never been a big deal with me, probably after you've fixed a hundred or so in a morning a small difference in positioning is not really an issue.

I hope this helps.

Rob
