Default Indian Mule Corps

Here is a shoulder title that has recently come to me from an older collection. Marked as the 21st Mule Corps. While the title face looks standard enough the lugs appear "at least to me" as possible African/Egyptian cast or is it Indian made? This being a WW1 unit.

Thoughts and or opinions?

Best
Jack

Classic Indian 'sand cast' lugs - still seen on IA and Pak Army stuff today, in fact.

The 21st Cadre was created in 1905 as part of an expansion of the |Indian Army's transport capability, with 21 mule cadres, 3 camel cadres and 2 pony cart cadres. The \mules saw some service in France and extensive service in Mespot. and on the NWF. Haven't found the 21st on an order of battle yet.

Thanks Peter, great info. I still struggle a bit with cast badges. While I do not actively seek them out, the seem to keep turning up. Particularly as one might expect on Indian pieces.
Best
