Question 4th/5th Royal Scots - which to keep ?

Hi all,

Have a read a few threads on this particular badge, K&K 1697, that suggest a number of manufacturer's variants are known in particular those that are deeper in cross section and have a more compact crown. Andy has made a comment on a thread as to a difference in the thistle but note no appreciable differences here. Both here are quite deep in cross section.

I am thinning out the collection and so wanted advice or comment on choosing between the following pair, thanks in advance Dean.

I think the first one (l to r) is the most attractive looking from a pure aesthetic viewpoint.

Both are very nice badges, I would pick the second badge as I prefer it's crown and it's appearance of age.
Hard decision!

I prefer the first as the lugs are thicker and more substantial. Don;t know if this is a better sign of older.

Simon.

I would go for the 1st example, the reverse has a far better stamp and as Simon states, the loops seem more robust ?? but as always, what do I know ??

Dave.
