Default Household Cavalry

Hi Guys,

I'm seeking some clarification on Household Cavalry badges.

From Wikipedia..The Household Cavalry (HCav) is made up of the two most senior regiments of the British Army, the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons).

Each has its own hat badge yet there is also a separate Household Cavalry badge.

I guess I am trying to work out who wears the Household Cavalry badge?

Mick

I don't think it's so much who wears them as what order of dress they wear them in as I believe they both wear the HC badge at some time.

Default Household Cavalry

Hi Mick

They are still two separate regiments but just to confuse things the ceremonial element of each regiment (the soldiers you see performing state duties) are collectively known as the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

As already mentioned, the cap badge worn depends on the order of dress. If I remember correctly, the regimental badges are worn in service dress and the HC badge is worn on the dark blue forage cap.

Default HCR & HCMR

Hello all

A little more information and clarification.

The HCR & HCMR are both composite regiments.

The HCR, based at Windsor, consists of the Life Guards (A & B squadrons) & The Blues and Royals (C & D Squadrons), and the HCMR, based at Knightsbridge, has one Squadron of each.

The HCR cap badge is worn, as has been said, in Forage caps in review order by members of both regiments. In Berets and SD caps individual regimental badges are worn.

I hope this is of help/interest.
Cheers

Rob

Hello Mick,
If you are looking to buy this series of badges, I would suggest you are careful, they were and still are worn on the forage cap and just like the regimental badges, there are a great many that have never been anywhere remotely near Windsor or Knightsbridge, matters are certainly not helped by the descriptions given by H in K&K Volume one.
As with the regimental badges of the four regiments, you should choose wisely before parting with your money.
Regards Frank
