Default Railway Service badge-a new record ??

I wonder if anyone else was watching in amazement at the Cheshire Lines Committee "Railway Service " badge which finished yesterday on Ebay at £565.

Can anyone take a wild guess at what I will be looking for when I am next out around the flea markets, car boots and Antique Fairs ?

I know one mans Trash is another's treasure but I still find the price incredible.

P.B.

Hello Peter

I noticed this badge when it was first listed and thought it would sell well because of the 'Cheshire Lines' aspect but I am amazed at the final price. Just goes to show that railway collectors must have more money than militaria collectors! And yes, I am expecting some flak from that comment!

Regards
Roger

Peter,
The CLC type title shown above right to the Lines Committee badge is one I have and thought it was military, it could go on ebay . . !

As for Railway collectors having more money than Militaria enthusiasts, well we have seen some silly money spent on a T/ASC/ shoulder title a while back, so I think it is auction fever once again.

Simon,

I thought it was Chinese Labour Corps, but I think someone told me otherwise, either on this forum or somewhere in my travels, my badge/title has small holes in it for whatever reason I'm not sure.

There is another Cheshire Lines Committee Railway Service badge current bids £337
Other high value Railway Service badges are Cambrian Railway, Caledonian Railway, Cardiff Bute Docks off the top of my head.

Hi

The Chinese Labour Corps badge is a thin oval copper badge with the letters "C.L.C" raised on it (blade fittings to reverse). Had one for years before I realised what it was. Now sits with two bronze medals to the CLC, picked up in China some 13 years ago.

Peter,

I have a Cheshire Lines police Victorian helmet badge and cap badge in my collection and can attest that they are sought after greatly. I dear'nt think of what I paid for them. You not only have the police collectors keen to secure them there are the railway collectors also. Alas, most dealers are now tuned in to the fact that anything railway related, particularly for a small company, is something of a money "cow". Good luck in finding by chance a "sleeper", but sit down before asking the price!

Dave.
