Guys
Many of these batteries consisted of groups of volunteers from certain parts of South Africa, recruited during the volunteer drives held around the country. Therefore the 5th Regiment would very likely have been recruited from guys in the Piet Retief area of South Africa. Similar to the "pals battalions" of WW1. Hope this helps. I started with "definately only cap badges", then it went to "I suppose I should put shoulder titles with these", then "might as well include the collars" and now pagri badges, victorian busby badges and bullion grenade FS cap badges. When will it end!!!!! regards
