Default Northamptonshire, any ideas?

Any one any ideas on this one? It came with a series of other badges that had been fixed to wooden boards.

It looks as though at some stage, it used to have a slider fitted but this was replaced with lugs (which were crimped together and folded inwards on the board).

What strikes me is that the badge looks roughly cast and if it is a copy its no great shakes but why have a slider fitted and then remove it to fit lugs?

Thanks, Ivan

Its not cast, but a poor quality die struck example. There were some all W/M badges produced pre ww1, but I am not expert enough on these to judge if this example is genuine or not. Some genuine badges are not particularly well done.

Thanks for that CB. Interesting about pre WW1 wm versions.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks, Ivan

Ivan,
glad the Bacardi is going down well! LOL (Private joke between friends).

I think this falls into the "Walking Out" bracket, I'm sure your badge is OK, just when and for what for I don't know?

The bacardi is indeed going down well, who knows where it may take me!

A walking out badge, thank you!

To be honest, I have no idea.

It looks to me like the slider has been removed and replaced with modern lugs so perhaps that takes it out of the realm of walking out badge

Ivan, looking closer, there is another option! The trace mark were the slider was fitted makes it early (pre ww2) as on later badges the slider was fitted to the upper edge! I think you may have just a plain and simple Bimetal ORs badge which has lost the Gm "Northants" over laid scroll?

They often come adrift?

Andy,
Have just checked this badge with a 'normal' Northants badge and I think you are spot on, it does indeed look like an ordinary badge with the gm Northamptonshire scroll missing.

Now why didn't I think of that?

The power of the B&CMB Forum strikes gain!

Many thanks

Ivan,
should be some marks or smooth patches in the areas of the scroll ends where the braze would have been!

Andy, you are right, there are smooth marks at the end of the scrolls and seems to prove your theory.

However.....in comparing it I see that it is smaller than a 'normal' Northants badge by just a couple of milimetres?
