cbuehler - Nice to have the good feelling I had about this group confirmed. Restoration is not something I would consider. It's a personal choice and perhaps I'm mistaken but I prefer to retain as much of the original badge as possible. I've seen some of the excellent work carried out by members of this forum. While something is undoudtedly gained, something else is lost. It's a trade-off I can't accept.
Phil - Thanks for taking the time to look at the Australian badges. I'm very pleased they are WW1 issue. When looking at prices I've noticed those with sliders tend to command a higher price than those with loops. I imagine it's because slidered versions provide more complelling evidence of authenticity, eg, crimp marks, taper, patina, positioning etc. Alternatively, the average collector may simply find them more pleasing to look at.
