Royal Garrison Regiment (?)
I believe this photo to be of a man serving with the short-lived Royal Garrison Regiment (possibly in Malta?). The shoulder title [Westlake 1594?] is not particularly clear in the photo below, though it is much more legible under a loupe.
As can be seen, the Royal arms cap badge is being worn in the Brodrick cap, with matching collar badges, all three with KC. I would be grateful for a positive ID, if anybody can confirm this as RGR. With thanks, JT Last edited by Jelly Terror; 18-10-17 at 08:54 PM. Reason: Correction of ‘cipher’ to ‘arms’. |

Yes, it seems likely to be the RGR, although the previous, Royal Reserve Regiment wore the same cap badge and collar badge in the case of the Home Counties Battalions.

It was not just the Home Counties Regt but also several other Reserve Regts who wore the badge. K&K Vol 1 is not well written here and is misleading and the Home Counties attribution is often repeated by major auction houses.
Thanks for posting he photo. It is the first one I have seen that shows the full size k/c in use rather than the QVC. |

Its a "Royal Arms" capbadge, not a Royal Cypher, which is the sovereigns title i.e. VR, ER, GR
