Default Guards 'trade' badge backings Full Dress
I have done a lot of work recently on the possibility that the various 'trade' badges were always worked on to dark navy blue backings, together with all rank badges and Good Conduct badges except the RSM 'big badge', on scarlet.

I conclude dark navy blue was always the backing.

Please does anyone have evidence to the contrary?

I have a strengthening feeling that the scarlet backings are officer territory and, for what it is worth, the Guards Museum agree, from photo. evidence.

I now am utterly convinced that all OR rankings except the SM large badge, and all 'trade' badges, were and are on dark navy background.

Just a few i's to dot and t's to cross and I will finish my article for the MHS Bulletin.

Identical to non Guards Officers' Mess dress badges but twice the price........

the officers' badges, such few as there are, are officially on scarlet backings, according to Guards Master Tailors.

Where it would seem that Guards trade badge backings would certainly be on blue nowadays, did this always hold true? (in other words, circa ww1 or before).
I also note that Guards full dress L. Cpl. and L. Sgt. rank chevrons have a very thin dark blue edging. This also applies to good conduct badges for Privates etc.
