Help ...Identify this odd patch !!!

Another odd one here .A soldier wearing either a ASC or NZASC hat badge ,British coat of arms buttons but a curious patch which appears to be a silver fern on a black background .A patch I have not seen before. Opinions welcomed

I have been informed that the soldier may be a British driver attached to HQ command ,to drive NZ Generals ,hence the fern patch

Just an update and correction to the above information .The British ASC drivers were attached to the New Zealand Division, to drive the motor transport(trucks)

They wore a fern leaf motif on a black circle as their distinguishing patches
