Default Taking provenance with a pinch of salt

In the mid-80s, during my tenure as an airport duty management officer, a Kuwaiti Air Force Lt-Col gifted me with a set of officers tunic buttons and rank insignia (rank stars depicted the Air Force emblem). All in the attached envelope. Thus, I always took for granted that the scanned button was Air Force, whereas the emblem denotes Army. It was only recently while rummaging for some missing papers that the envelope came to light and I compared button and envelope. A bit of a mystery here, unless The Kuwaiti AF made do with Army buttons prior to a subsequent AF design. Any knowledge on this would be very welcome.
